I don't know if I'm just burnt out from working 80-90 hours a week or what is happening to me! For the past month I've felt a calling to quit my job as a area manager of convenience stores. I have no large savings to fall back on, I could probably make it a few months but would have to find ways to make at least $1200 a month for monthly bills and expenses. I'm tired of selling beer and ciggarettes to poor people and it has really been bothering me for awhile now. I feel I should be spending my time helping people, maybe volunteering etc, making some kind of difference instead of helping people kill themselves and waste away what little money they have.
I'm pretty simple, I wouldnt need much money personally for myself and my son to get by and I could cut the cable and cell phone bill down. I could watch every penny closely, I've given up soda in the last month and very rarely buy anything besides weekly groceries. I think I could do this and maybe I can make this some kind of challenge. It is scary to think there would be no steady paycheck of any sort though!

Because, if you could do that, you can also cut back on the number of hours you have to work....

I was in San Antonio in Nov & Dec.
Loved your area. We have our youngest daughter living in Abileen, Tx.

Have you looked for jobs in the non-profit sector?

You should not feel guilty or responsible for selling alcohol and cigarettes to the "poor", however. They will continue to purchase these things whether you are taking their money or someone else is. The responsibility is on th buyer.
Doing something you feel good about, however is important. It makes your life much easier, happier, and positive.
Good luck!

Total up the list, then go back and start seeing where and how much you could cut back on things like what you already mentioned. Doing it on paper is more accurate and more 'real' than just daydreaming about it.
Then you know what you're up against and how much of your current icnome you'd need to replace.
It can be very liberating to 'think outside the box.' Keep it up and you may be able to come up with some creative ways to exit out of those insane hours.
